TransUnion Lets Lenders Preview Credit Before Buying Scores

TransUnion announced on October 8 a new ordering option for mortgage lenders called TransUnion First Look Functionality for Mortgage, which lets a lender review a borrower's credit report before paying for a credit score.

  • Lenders can start with a credit report alone, then add VantageScore® 4.0 or a FICO® Score later.
  • First Look works for both soft pull and hard pull workflows, and TransUnion says it requires no changes to GSE or FHA selling guidelines.
  • TransUnion is tying the launch to its 99 cent VantageScore 4.0 mortgage pricing, already extended through 2028, and says lenders will not pay for a second credit report when they add a score later, as long as eligibility and matching conditions are met.

At Informative Research, we work with lenders on exactly this kind of ordering decision, when to pull a credit report and when to add a score, as part of managing overall credit and verification costs.
